Union & Peace Advisor’s Code of Conduct

Our model is a special moment for students and teachers to come together in the spirit of healthy competition.  As a visiting Advisor, we ask you to be aware of our Code of Conduct while preparing your students, on campus, and after the event.  

  1. Uphold Ethical Conduct and Neutrality – Encourage integrity, respect, and diplomacy while embodying these values yourself. Support students in developing independent, well-reasoned perspectives without imposing personal opinions. When you have observations or issues, maintain open communication through the appropriate channels, that is, students connect to their current Advisors, and Advisors can connect to Union & Peace Advisor.  Visiting advisors are not permitted to communicate directly with Union & Peace chairs, co-chairs, or pages.  

  2. Foster Student Leadership and Growth – Empower students to take ownership of their roles while providing guidance. Offer resources, training, and feedback to enhance their research, debate, and critical thinking skills. As MUN advisors, stay present, engaged and available throughout the conference to provide your guidance and expertise to your students.  It is not recommended to attend this conference as an advisor without previous MUN experience. Take special care when interacting with the Secretariat, as they are also students.  

  3. Ensure a Safe, Inclusive, and Professional Environment – Cultivate a space where all students feel respected and valued. Model diplomatic behavior, cultural awareness, and adherence to formal debate procedures, both in appearance and actions.  Be aware of our primary responsibility towards safeguarding our students. 

  4. Promote Constructive Debate and Collaboration – Guide students in engaging in civil discourse, active listening, and negotiation while reinforcing teamwork, coalition-building, and mutual support.

  5. Prioritize Conference Integrity and Student Well-being – Uphold MUN rules, discourage dishonesty, and emphasize learning over competition. Provide appropriate supervision, ensure students maintain a healthy balance in their experience and well-being, and address concerns as they arise.  Follow through with the conference parameters and logistics as stated in the registration process.
